A United itinerary may be booked directly with the airline or through a travel agency. Before changing it, identify the ticket issuer, the operating carrier, whether travel has begun and the fare conditions. An available replacement flight does not by itself guarantee the existing ticket can be exchanged.
For general assistance across carriers, see flight changes and ticket exchange.

If your outbound trip is already complete, the ticket may be partially used. The remaining return flight can require different pricing and servicing than a wholly unused ticket.
International travel can involve onward connections, entry requirements and partner-operated segments. Review the entire ticket and any connecting flights before changing a single sector.
If another agency issued the ticket, that agency or United may need to process changes. BookMyReservations cannot assume control of a booking simply because a traveler has its confirmation number.

United has eliminated many change fees on eligible tickets, but this does not mean every change is free. Fare differences may apply, and some ticket types, routes or circumstances have restrictions. Basic Economy and certain special fares can have different eligibility. Confirm the applicable terms before changing a booking.
Travelers seeking a different flight on the same day may have separate same-day change or standby options under United's current rules. Eligibility depends on the itinerary, ticket and availability; a same-day request is not guaranteed.
United Polaris business-class and other premium cabin tickets can involve significant fare differences when changing dates or routes. Verify the cabin on every segment of the replacement itinerary, particularly on connecting or partner-operated flights.
For broader premium assistance, see business and first class changes.
A United-marketed itinerary may include flights operated by Lufthansa, SWISS, Singapore Airlines or other partner airlines. The operating carrier and ticketing carrier may differ. Any exchange should account for the full itinerary, available booking classes and ticketing restrictions.

A missed departure is not the same as an advance voluntary change. Contact the appropriate servicing provider promptly, since a no-show may affect remaining flights and ticket value. See missed-flight assistance.
If the ticket is not eligible for a change, review permitted cancellation, credit or replacement-booking options before abandoning it. Do not assume a refund or future flight credit is available without checking the fare and ticket status.
Prepare the passenger name, United confirmation code, 13-digit ticket number if available, current flights, desired new dates or routes, travel status and the provider that issued the ticket. Do not send payment card information by ordinary email.
Traveling on a ticket involving United (UA) and another Star Alliance carrier? A booking may include partner-operated or codeshare flights. The marketing airline, operating airline and ticket issuer can be different, so eligibility for changes, fare differences and ticket reissue must be checked against the complete itinerary. Alliance membership alone does not authorize one carrier or travel agency to modify every partner ticket.

Not necessarily. The original ticketing channel and servicing authority determine who can make changes. You may need to contact United or the issuing agency directly.
Changes to codeshare or partner-airline itineraries may require review of the marketing airline, operating airline and ticket issuer.
