United First Class: Which Flights Qualify?

United First is generally offered on eligible domestic and certain short-haul routes. United Polaris is a separate long-haul business-class product. Check the cabin shown on each flight segment rather than assuming every premium seat is First Class.

Changing Your First Class Flight

Date, time, origin, destination and routing changes depend on your ticket conditions and the availability of the replacement flight. An itinerary update may require a ticket exchange before the new flights are confirmed.

First Class Ticket Exchanges and Fare Differences

Even when an airline change fee does not apply, the replacement flight can cost more. Taxes, fare differences and any separately disclosed agency service charges may apply. Ask for a full cost breakdown before authorizing changes.

Same-Day First Class Changes

Same-day confirmed changes and standby options depend on eligibility, available flights, airline rules and cabin inventory. A First Class seat on the original flight does not guarantee First Class on the new departure.

Cancellation or Airline Schedule Change

An airline-initiated cancellation or significant schedule change can have different remedies from a voluntary change. Check available alternatives and any refund rights before purchasing a replacement ticket.

First Class Connections and Mixed Cabins

On a multi-segment ticket, some flights may be in First Class while others are in Business or Economy. Review each segment and the full ticket before making a change that might affect onward connections.

What to Have Ready

Have the passenger name, booking reference, 13-digit ticket number, travel dates, departure and destination airports, and preferred alternatives. Tickets issued by another provider may need to be serviced by that issuer.
