Act before the scheduled departure
If you know you cannot take the booked flight, contact the ticketing source as early as possible. Waiting until after departure can change how the ticket is handled and may trigger no-show rules.
Same-day change is not the same for every ticket
Some fares or airlines may allow a same-day change or standby option, while other tickets may require a normal voluntary reissue. Eligibility, timing windows and fees vary by fare and airline.
Availability and fare differences matter
Even when another flight has seats, the original booking class may not be available. A different flight can require repricing, a fare difference, taxes or an applicable change charge.
Connections and international itineraries
Changing one segment can affect connections, minimum connection times and later flights. International tickets may also require a full itinerary review before a same-day change is confirmed.
Same-Day Rebooking or Ticket Exchange
If a same-day change cannot be handled as a simple schedule adjustment, the ticket may need to be rebooked, exchanged or reissued. The available path depends on ticket status, fare rules, departure time and who controls the ticket. Review ticket exchange and reissue or flight rebooking when the itinerary requires a broader change.
Earlier or Later Flight on the Same Day
Travelers often need an earlier or later departure without changing the travel date. Availability on the requested flight, the applicable booking class and the ticket rules determine whether a same-day option can be reviewed. If departure has already passed, see missed flight rebooking options.
